design for weddings with personality
Meet lucy
Owner, designer, chaos goblin
As I said, I started Submarine Studios after I got married in 2024. But here’s what I got up to before then:
I used to run a teeny tiny vegan bakery called The Zebra Kitchen (and I’ve run into a surprising amount of people who remember it, wild!)
I closed down the bakery in 2019 and went back to uni to study Theatre and Performance Design while also working as a graphic designer
When the pandemic hit in my first year, I got bored and taught myself to sew
I’ve been working as a designer for theatre since 2022, and I’ve worked on everything from tiny black box shows with no budget to big budget West End shows. I still do a few shows a year but Submarine Studios takes up most of my time these days
In 2025 I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis, which gave me the big push I needed to get Submarine Studios running full time, so I can have the work-life balance my body needs. In the future I hope to donate a percentage of my profits to endometriosis research, so future generations don’t have to suffer so much with this!
Fun facts about me:
My hair has been every colour of the rainbow (my forest green era is still my favourite)
I’m a huge sci-fi nerd
I have a baby sourdough starter named Sharon
I’m so terrified of spiders I nearly ruined my own proposal because there were two of them about 4 metres away
I was an am-dram theatre kid, and was in Annie 4 times
Favourite TV show: Severance (don’t bring this up unless you want to be trapped in a conversation for an hour)
First gig: Black Veil Brides in 2013. I’m not ashamed and I will be at the barrier when they play Download.
Meet george
Unpaid intern
My long suffering husband and best friend. We met at music college in 2014 and have basically been inseparable ever since.
George is a big music guy, and has a collection of 5 guitars and a recording set up at home. Although he very gracefully handed over his office to me once I went full-time, you’ll still see his guitars in the background when we have a video chat!
You’ll probably meet George (or my lovely mum) if you meet me at a wedding fair. And if you order something super heavy George will be the one carrying it in. He’s a very supportive and cool guy, and all-round good egg.
In his free time away from Submarine Studios George has a full time job as an estate agent for an independent, family run agency in Wales.
First gig: A Day To Remember at Ally Pally, he was gassed when they got announced for Download.
